Who We Are

Rochester Photo Supply is a business that spans generations as a camera store. While technically a new business as of 2025, much of our staff have worked here for decades.

Previous owners have passed on the baton to our current ownership allowing Scott’s Photo to continue to be the hub for Rochester’s photography community. Rochester is our home, and we reach beyond the walls of our store to spread knowledge and passion for all photographers.

Our History

1970s
Carhart Photos

In the 1970s, Steven Sasson of Eastman Kodak Co. invented of the world’s first digital camera, revolutionizing how photos were captured and printed.

This surge in popularity for photo printing created a vibrant spot for photography enthusiasts in a small plaza across from the Wegmans on East Avenue, where they could fully immerse themselves in their passion.

1983
Scott's Photo

A longtime employee of Carhart Photos, Scott Sims purchased the store in 1983 just before the Carhart Brothers sold the company in 1984. Sims managed the photo store until his retirement in 2011.

2011
Rowe Professional Photographers

Following the news of Scott’s retirement, Richard Rowe purchased Scott’s to continue providing Rochester with one of it’s last photo labs. Richard Rowe and his family opened Rochester’s first camera store in 1889 and had been serving local photographers for three generations.

2025
Scott's Rochester Photo Supply
Richard Rowe knew the importance of keeping the last camera store and film lab in Rochester alive even with his retirement nearing. At 76, he decided it was time for new ownership to keep Scott’s open well into the future and sold the business to Tatiana Ariola. Tatiana along with her fiance, Adam Montoya – who was an employee of Richard Rowe for 10 years, has an education in photography from RIT and a career in advertising photography. Tatiana and Adam are excited to bring fresh ideas to keep the legacy of the store going for many years to come.
